Youth Travel

Hopkins Youth Hockey Association (HYHA) offer teams at the Squirt, Peewee and Bantam levels. The Travel level classifications for youth are Squirts (ages 9-10), Peewees (ages 11-12) and Bantams (ages 13-14). Age groups are divided by birthdate (June1st - May 31st). 

Teams within each level are determined through a tryout process to place kids on teams with players of similar skill and experience. League games are played in the west metro area and the season includes out of town travel to weekend tournaments. 

HYHA is a volunteer lead organization that depends on all participating Travel family's compliance with the volunteer policy

Minnesota Hockey has implemented a New Waiver Rulewhich will be effective starting the 2024-25 season.


Registration Process

Before registering, there are a few steps that need to be completed:

  • Review the jersey size chart and know what size your player(s) will need for the upcoming season
  • Please read the Volunteer Policy as this is a requirement of participation (no exceptions)
  • Review the player & parent codes of conduct below with your player(s)
  • Bantam players considering trying out for their high school team need to read/accept the Tryout policy below


IMPORTANT: First year Squirts and first year HYHA players, will need to select their jersey number as the last step of the registration process (right after payment is complete). Do not close your browser tab before completing this step

During the registration process, you will have the option to sign your player up for the Visual Edge training program. HYHA Pre-Season And Tryout Expectations

Pre-Season Clinics start in the early fall. Clinics are typically 4-7 days a week (depending on the level) and run approximately 3 weeks. Tryouts are typically at the end of September for the youth levels. Specific dates are posted in advance of each season. Squirt Season Expectations

The season starts at the beginning of October. Squirts will practice 4-6 times a week depending on level.

District 3 league games start mid-November. Each team will participate in 3-4 travel tournaments during the season. The end of the season District 3 tournament is in early March.

Peewee Season Expectations

The season starts at the beginning of October. Peewees will practice 5-6 times a week depending on level.

District 3 league games start at the beginning of November. Each team will participate in 3-4 travel tournaments during the season. The end of the season District 3 tournament will start mid-February

Bantam Season Expectations

The season starts at the beginning of October. Bantams will practice 6-7 times a week depending on level.

District 3 league games start at the beginning of November. Each team will participate in 3-4 travel tournaments during the season. The end of the season District 3 tournament will start mid-February.

*Players that are rostered to the Peewee A or Bantam A teams will be charged a $300 additional fee after the teams are posted.

*Players that are rostered to the Bantam C team, will be refunded $300 after the teams are posted.

You will need to enter your player's jersey size to complete the registration.  Please reference the SIZE CHART

If this is your first year playing with HYHA, you will need to provide a birth certificate to the Registrar before your registration will be confirmed.

*Acceptance of the volunteer policy is required to confirm your registration. The policy can be found here.  Failure to comply will result in a $700 fee assessed (per player) at the end of the season.
