Alex Fons

Alex Fons has been coaching Hopkins Goalies for over 10 years. He began coaching skaters and goalies at HYHA when he was a Varsity Goalie for Hopkins High School and has continued to coach throughout the 2018-2019 season.

After graduating from Hopkins High School, Alex went on to play his freshman season at The University of Minnesota. He then transferred after his first season and joined the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in the NAHL. After playing a year of junior hockey in Fairbanks, AK, he landed at the University of Minnesota, Duluth and played his final 3 collegiate seasons for the UMD Bulldogs. 

Alex currently works in Finance for UnitedHealthcare and lives in NE Minneapolis. He is also a part-time student at The University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management pursuing his MBA. 

Matt McNeely

Matt McNeely has joined the HYHA Goalie Coaching staff this season. Matt grew up in Burnsville, MN and played hockey in High School for St. Thomas Academy before joining the USA National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, MI for his final two years of high school. 

Matt had a successful college hockey career playing for the UMD Bulldogs and was teammates with Alex Fons for 3 years. He decided to pursue other passions after college instead of going into the minor league hockey world. 

Matt is currently coaching goalies at The Goalcrease in Edina and is attending school to become a police officer.
