Mite Handbook - New Hockey Family Guide

2010 MITE HANDBOOK

The HYHA coaching staff and Board of Directors have created a Mite Handbook for new families to HYHA. The Handbook describes the information needed for a new family to hockey to understand in order to have a successful first season with hockey. The information includes what equipment is necessary, what kind of time commitment should be expected, skills that will be taught, and general information about the game of hockey. Its MUST reading for any new family to Youth Hockey.

How to put on Goalie Gear for Mites

Click on the Title above to see the video. I shot a video of putting the goalie gear on Grant. This should help parents who are dressing their son or daughter in the goalie gear for the first time. I hope it helps putting that gear on for the first time... One thing to keep in mind.. not all of the pads that the Associaton has are the same type and design that I have shown in the video. Some of the pads are NOT designed for the butterly technique and DO NOT have the "knee pocket" that Grant's pads have. Several of the kids have banged their knees up dropping onto the ice while the pad has rotated to the outside, causing their knee to become exposed. I would recommend looking at the pads when you have them at home and making a dry run getting the dressed. Some of the kids have worn separate knee pads, and some have worn their shin pads under the goalie pads. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your coach about the pad set that your team will be using. Thanks, Coach Greg
