January 24-25.
Hopkins Squirt B2 had an exciting and successful tournament in Mora. As a tribute to Hockey Day in Minnesota, each team played their initial game of the tournament on an outdoor rink. Hopkins beat Anoka 3-1 on a balmy 34 degrees day in Mora. Ethan Hatzung stopped 12 shots and Dylan Gainsley netted 2 goals, including the game winner. Hopkins dropped their second game to Elk River 2-1 but came back strong for the 3rd place game on Sunday. Hopkins fell behind early, 1-0 to Wayzata Yellow but answered the call with goals in the second period by Myles Koppelman, Edward Winkler, and Grant Lochner. Wayzata pulled within 1 goal but time ran out and Hopkins claimed a 3-2 victory. Ethan Hatzung stopped 17 Wayzata shots and ultimately earned one of the tournaments ‘most outstanding player’ awards. Congratulations to Hopkins Squirt B2. 3rd Place.
