Tournament Information

HYHA registers each team for a minimum of 3 tournaments including at least 1 travel tournament.  In most cases, hotel blocks have already been reserved for travel tournaments.  Tournament and Hotel information will be provided to the manager soon after teams are established.

TOURNAMENT CHECKLIST:

Contact the hotel for travel tournament (ASAP)

  • confirm the number of hotel rooms needed for the team
  • ask for reservation deadline and any other information needed to communicate to the team
  • reserve a team room (if needed)

For all Tournaments:

  • Check tournament webpage for tournament information (usually found on the association website under Tournaments)
  • Contact Tournament Directors
    • Let them know you are the HYHA team contact
    • confirm payments have been received
    • Find out any information you will need to provide to the tournament director (ie, rosters, coaches, T-Shirt sizes, etc)
  • Communicate the tournament dates and hotel information to the team (this information should also be posted on team web page)
  • Communicate tournament game schedule to team once available (game schedules usually come out 1-2 weeks prior to tournament)
  • Add tournament dates to team calendar
  • Add tournament games to team calendar (once available)
  • Plan any team meals, activities, etc for the tournament weekend
  • Check team in for tournament (you will need a copy of the USA Hockey certified roster, scoresheet labels and anything else the Tournament Director requests)

*Ask for help!  Many parents like to help with tournament planning!

ADDITIONAL TOURNAMENTS

Teams may add additional tournaments to their schedule if desired by both the coaches and the parents and approved by HYHA.

D3 Games are scheduled around the tournaments that HYHA has registered the team for.   Any additional tournaments must work with the team D3 Game schedule.   Do not commit to an additional tournament until after the Team's D3 Game Schedule is posted.  D3 Games will not be rescheduled due to a tournament conflict.

All expenses for additional tournaments are the responsibility of the Team.  Tournament fees average about $1000 (can range from $750-$1500).

Squirt/10U Managers - Be careful when considering additional tournaments.  There is a 35 game max for Squirt/10U (includes D3 games, tournament games and scrimmages).

Let's Play Hockey, Youth Hockey Hub and searching on hockey association websites (look under tournaments) are all good resources for finding additional tournaments.
