EXHIBITION GAMES/Scrimmages/Non-D3 games

Discuss Exhibition Games/Scrimmages (non-D3 games) with the coaching staff.  Determine if a Coach, Team Manager/Asst. Manager or a parent volunteer will be responsible for scheduling scrimmages.

Squirt and 10U Teams - 35 Games max (includes D3 games, tournament games and scrimmages).  Teams cannot exceed the 35 game limit.

PeeWee, Bantam, 12U, 15U teams - no game limit

Prior to ice schedules being posted, you may request a specific scrimmage date/time/location for your team via the Scrimmage Request Form

If a HOME scrimmage is scheduled during a solo practice, the manager needs to edit the team calendar to add the scrimmage information and notify the Ice Scheduler with the following information:  team name, opponent, date, time, location.

If the scrimmage is at the PAV or Minnetonka, please reach out to Karen Brau at MN Hockey TV and let her know time, location and teams to make sure those games get put into the system to be streamed (Email kbrau@youthsportsplus.com)

Contact the rink to inform them that a practice is now a game so the teams get locker rooms assigned

If an AWAY scrimmage is scheduled during an existing practice time, the team manager needs to immediately complete the ICE CHANGE REQUEST FORM (this needs to be submitted at least 48 hours before the scheduled practice to ensure the ice can be repurposed).  Allow up to 24 hours for approval before updating the team calendar.

If an AWAY scrimmage is scheduled during an open time on the team calendar, the manager needs to edit the team calendar to add the scrimmage information and notify the Ice Scheduler with the following information:  team name, opponent, date, time, location.

Refereed Scrimmages - teams schedule and pay referees (see below for link to schedule ref)

Controlled Scrimmages - referees are not scheduled.  Usually a coach from each team act as  refs

Tips for scheduling scrimmages:
  • Identify a scrimmage contact on your Team Webpage (can be coach, manager, asst manager, parent volunteer).  Teams from other associations will reach out to this person.
  • Dates that your team has solo ice are ideal opportunities for scrimmages
  • Look at other association team websites for scrimmage contacts  and reach out to determine interest
  • Determine which team will fund refs - typically HOME team supplies ice and AWAY team funds refs.  See below regarding scheduling refs
  • Assign game day duties

REf Requests

Request referees for HOME scrimmages/non-D3 games HERE
*Follow all instructions on the Ref request website.  Note any blackout dates that are listed.  Thanksgiving weekend is always a blackout date.

  • Referee request must be made by D3 team (HOME game)
  • Referee request must be submitted 5 days in advance of game date
  • Refs are not final until you get confirmation from Beltline
  • Payment must be made by D3 requesting team (non D3 payments are not accepted.  If the visiting team agrees to pay for refs they must reimburse the HYHA team)
  • Pay refs before the game - check ref room 15 minutes before game to confirm they are onsite and pay at that time.  If refs are not there call Mike Anderson - Beltline Refs immediately (612)618-4001

Adding a scrimmage to your team game schedule

When scheduling scrimmages if you have refs you must enter it as a Game on your team calendar:

  • Go to team page and click on edit button
  • Click on Game Schedule
  • Click on Add Game
  • Enter all game details: Date, Time, Opponent, Location, etc
  • Save the Game
  • Refresh and the game should show up under your Game Schedule and on your team calendar as a game
  • Enter the score on webpage or SE App upon completion of the game

*If a scrimmage is a coach controlled scrimmage (ie, coaches ref - no real refs) enter it as a "Coach Controlled Scrimmage" on team calendar - not on the game schedule.  No Score Sheet, no GameSheet for Coach Controlled Scrimmages.
